I was absolutely blown away by the following quotes from a new "bible"...

get a load of these choice selections from this pile of filth:
1 Corinthians 7:1-2KJV: "Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me: [It is] good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, [to avoid] fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband."
New: "Some of you think the best way to cope with sex is for men and women to keep right away from each other. That is more likely to lead to sexual offences. My advice is for everyone to have a regular partner."
1 Corinthians 7:8-7
KJV: "I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I. But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn."
New: "If you know you have strong needs, get yourself a partner. Better than being frustrated."
This thing is from the "Good as New" bible, a publication of an apparently 'liberated' guy in the UK. The most disgusting thing (well, one of the most disgusting things) is that this putrid publication has the endorsement of the Archbishop of Canterbury. (many of you may not be surprised at that, given the leanings of Mr. Williams) Yet again, I am thoroughly sickened at the blasphemies that people are perpetrating in the name of Christianity. We can only pray that the delusion of the author is healed and that the damage to new Christians and old alike is kept to a minimum by God's providence.
wow... that's really depressing
/me goes and prays no one will ever buy that pile of filth

Posted by: Russ at June 28, 2004 01:41 AMLooking at it again, I'm struck at how truly bizarre the first verse you quote is - the best way to avoid sexual offences is grab a partner and commit a sexual offence.
Posted by: Russ at June 28, 2004 01:43 AMSure, Russ.... of course you realize that they only consider sexual offenses those sexual acts that occur between partners not both totally willing.
As for Cleese, the same thought ran thru my mind - well, that this was the Monty Python Scriptures... it truly is scary.
