A twice-in-a-century event is occurring tomorrow, and God willing I'll be able to grab some pictures of it to post here.
About every 100 years, there are two instances, 8 years apart, in which Venus passes between us and the Sun in such a way that we see it cross the disk. It may seem to many that this should happen more often, but the orbital dynamics are such that it happens only as rarely as it does.
Check out Sky and Telescope or Astronomy magazines for their discussion of the event. I at least (call me a geek) find this stuff pretty cool.
